We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically minded Technical Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting technical drawings, preparing accurate estimates and quotations for steel duct manufacturing, and coordinating approved work into production.
The role requires strong numerical and technical ability, the capacity to interpret drawings and specifications, and close collaboration with clients and production.

Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Estimating & Quotation Preparation
- Review and interpret client drawings, layouts, and technical specifications.
- Prepare accurate estimates based on materials, labour, manufacturing processes, and production requirements.
- Compile quotations ensuring all technical and cost information is correct and complete.
- Clarify technical queries with clients, consultants, or internal stakeholders where required.
- Act as the technical point of contact for clients regarding specifications, drawings, and order requirements.
- Maintain clear communication regarding quotation status, technical clarifications, and order confirmations.
- Capture and update client, quotation, and order information in internal systems.
- Convert approved quotations into production orders with accurate technical detail.
- Liaise with the factory and production teams to ensure manufacturing requirements are clearly defined and achievable.
- Track production progress and assist in resolving any technical or specification discrepancies.
- Maintain organised records of drawings, estimates, quotations, and orders.
- Prepare regular reports related to estimating accuracy, order conversions, and workload.
- Maintain and update standard costing sheets, material price lists, and estimating templates.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Matric (Grade 12).
- Technical or engineering diploma, draughting qualification, or equivalent technical training.
- Minimum 23 years experience in estimating, technical coordination, manufacturing, fabrication, or HVAC/ducting environments.
- Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Experience in steel ducting, HVAC systems, sheet metal, or fabrication industries.
- Familiarity with CAD drawings or digital take-off tools.
- Experience working for or with architects, quantity surveyors, consulting engineers, or within professional design or cost consulting environments.
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Fast typing skills.
- Ability to interpret technical information, drawings, and specifications.
- Logical and structured working style.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and basic office systems.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously under time pressure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (English and Afrikaans).
