Required Experience

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in traffic management or road safety, preferably within a construction or civil engineering environment.
Proven experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining temporary traffic control plans (TTCPs) in accordance with national and local regulations.
Familiarity with various traffic control devices and equipment (e.g., cones, barriers, flagger stations, temporary signage, variable message signs).
Experience in conducting site-specific risk assessments related to traffic management.
Demonstrable experience in supervising traffic control personnel (e.g., flaggers).
Experience in incident response and reporting related to traffic safety.

Required Qualifications

Matric/Grade 12 certificate.
Valid driver's license (Code B or higher).
Accredited Traffic Management/Traffic Safety Officer certification (e.g., from relevant industry bodies or training providers).
Relevant Health and Safety qualifications (e.g., SAMTRAC, OHS Act training) are highly advantageous.
First Aid and Basic Fire Fighting certifications are beneficial.

Required Competencies

Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of traffic management principles, road safety regulations (e.g., RTMC guidelines, relevant SANS standards), and construction site safety protocols.
Planning & Organization: Strong ability to plan, organize, and execute complex traffic management schemes effectively and efficiently.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with site personnel, management, public, and regulatory authorities. Ability to give clear instructions and report incidents accurately.
Problem-Solving: Aptitude for quickly assessing traffic hazards and developing practical, effective solutions under pressure.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous in ensuring correct placement of signage, barriers, and other control devices, and accurate record-keeping.
Leadership & Supervision: Ability to effectively lead and manage traffic control teams, ensuring adherence to safety procedures.
Risk Assessment: Proven ability to identify, assess, and mitigate traffic-related risks on construction sites.
Decision-Making: Sound judgment to make quick, informed decisions, especially during emergencies or unexpected traffic changes.
Safety Orientation: Unwavering commitment to promoting and enforcing a strong safety culture on site.
