Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to the following:
Transport Coordination
- Schedule, book, and allocate loads with approved 3rd-party transporters.
- Monitor truck arrivals, loading progress, and departure times to ensure on-time dispatch.
- Confirm transporter availability.
- Maintain communication with transporters regarding delays, route changes, and load updates.
- Ensure all required transport documentation is prepared and provided to drivers.
- Work as part of the loading team to support accurate loading, checking, and dispatch processes.
- Assist in verifying load accuracy against delivery notes, load plans, and customer orders.
- Ensure adherence to loading safety standards, including weight limits and securing of loads.
- Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams to prioritise and sequence outgoing loads.
- Support daily operational tasks and collaborate with team members to solve operational issues.
Maintain daily transport summary and accurate dispatch records.
Report any transport delays, discrepancies, or incidents to management.
Assist with KPI tracking such as on-time performance, transporter efficiency, and loading productivity.
Customer & Internal Communication
- Provide timely updates to internal teams regarding transport status and expected delivery times.
- Liaise with customers (where applicable) regarding dispatch confirmations or delivery queries.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with key transport partners.
General
- Continuously evaluate and improve logistics processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency gains and cost savings.
- Following all aspects of HACCP; safety; quality, legality and aspects related to authenticity in the department.
- Any other support as per business demands.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE:
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years experience in transport controlling, dispatch, logistics coordination, or similar.
- Experience working with 3rd-party transporters is a strong advantage.
- Warehouse or loadingrelated experience preferred.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management ability.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple dispatches simultaneously.
- Computer literate (Excel, email, basic systems).
- Problem-solving attitude with attention to detail.
- Team player willing to be hands-on in daily operations.
