Transport Supervisor

Purpose of the Job

The purpose of this position is to focus on transport operations, driver coordination and ensure that the fleet is maintained in line with Company policies and the Road Traffic Legislation. The fleet must be serviceable and available on demand from operations.

Key Responsibilities

General
  • Supervise and oversee daily transport activities, loading and dispatching on time
  • Booking of services and maintenance of fleet with the workshop and Panel shop
  • Ensure fleet availability to meet all requests by scheduling, forecasting and surveying current user trends
  • Ensure vehicles are roadworthy, pre/post-trip inspections, and accident handling
  • Arrange fleets and fleet operational staff to provide support to the transport and hub departments
  • Complete all relevant documentation in the event of accidents and forward to the internal insurance department
  • Oversee routine and ad hoc maintenance, obtain tags for new vehicles and renew old ones to ensure schedule fleet management
  • Monitor and ensure fleet operation is in compliance with the Road Traffic Acts and regulations
  • Monitor fuel consumption and reconcile Fuel Cards expenses for all vehicles and drivers
  • Manage and address staff behaviour
  • Manage transport equipment
  • Participate in various workshops and educational programs for all fleet staff
  • Develop and implement standard operational standards to maintain vehicles by advocating best practices in industry
  • Facilitate and implement corrective actions and capacity building to supervise entire fleet to achieve company objectives
  • Conduct ACC meetings with drivers and crew to investigate accidents
  • Action and maintain abuse costs that need to be recovered
  • Facilitate training to transport staff
  • Manage fuel bowser
  • Ensure accurate transport debriefing and addressing transgressions
  • Repair and maintenance of VMH equipment
Reports and Record Keeping
  • Update weekly kilometres
  • Maintain vehicle and trailer asset register
  • Fuel consumption report
  • Fleet utilisation report
  • Driver training report
  • Fleet inspections
  • Maintenance report
  • Driver assessments, PDP and driver license
  • Licence and COF report
  • Weekly cost report
  • Maintain Vehicle Key Register
  • Daily and weekly fleet inspections
  • Checking all debriefing done previous day
Staff Management
  • Measure staff performance
  • Manage and address staff behaviour
Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Logistics or transport qualification will be an advantage
  • 2 to 3 years experience in transport
  • Fleet management experience
