NGap LECTURER

EAST LONDON & ALICE CAMPUS

The University of Fort Hare, Faculty of Education Early Childhood Development Centre seeks to fill 1 New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) Lecturer Post. This is a permanent post funded from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as part of the nGAP. The nGAP involves the recruitment, support and retention of highly capable and dedicated scholars as new academics in the above-mentioned discipline.

The nGAP Programme provides a wonderful supporting environment for academics to complete their Doctoral studies while developing teaching and learning, research and innovation as well as community engagement skills. The Programme covers a six-year period consisting of a 3-year development programme plus 3 years induction thereafter. The nGAP Scholars will be immediately appointed into permanent positions at the University of Fort Hare.

The Following Generic Criteria Are Applicable
  • Interest in becoming an academic
  • Evidence of eligibility to undertake postgraduate study
  • Be willing to commit to placement at the University of Fort Hare for the full 6 years of the programme.
Minimum Requirements
  • Masters Degree in Education or in fields related to ECD and should have obtained 70% for an M.Ed degree .
  • Eligibility and willingness to register for a PhD in Early Childhood Development qualification.
  • Teaching experience in foundation phase and a demonstrable interest in research is highly recommended.
  • Computer literate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lecture students at undergraduate level.
  • Setting and assessment of examination papers, and portfolio of evidence.
  • Supervise students during Work-based-learning.
  • Curriculum review and programme development.
  • Supervise students research at undergraduate levels.
  • Involvement in departmental research and publications.
  • Initiate and be involved in community engagement initiatives.
  • Assist with departmental administrative duties.
  • Attendance of developmental workshops for teaching and learning.
  • Participation in tutoring and mentoring activities.
  • Participation in all components and activities of the nGAP programme for the duration of the contract.
  • Completion of a Doctoral degree during the first three year of employment as an nGAP Lecturer.
  • Take part in liaising with relevant stakeholders in different departments and establish collaborations with potential partners within the ECD sector.
