UX Design lead-Mobile Channels

Role purpose:
As a User Experience (UX) Design Lead in the Mobile Channels team, you will join a highly driven, passionate, and engaged fun team that enjoys collaborating and problem solving together. You will help define and drive the future of Vodacoms UX designs practice, applying your passion and craft to deliver world class experiences on our mobile channels across consumer and enterprise business users.

As a UX design lead in the Mobile Channels team you possess excellent leadership and technical abilities, you are comfortable supervising the delivery of wireframes, research projects and defining a compelling experience design strategy.

You possess a clear vision of the future of user experience for your team and have the courage to pursue and advocate for forward-thinking design across our channels (My Vodacom App in VodaPay, Progressive Web app and USSD.

In this role, you will apply your passion for brand, craft, and design fidelity to guide research and

design processes ensuring that key KPIs are reached which include channel revenue, customer adoption, engagement and tNPS etc.

You will look after and manage a team of Designers, embracing and bringing out their unique strengths, while playing a mentorship role to help propel them forward. You will collaborate with leaders across Product, UX, Engineering, etc. of other feature teams and create innovative experiences across all of Vodacoms products.

Your responsibilities will include:
Responsible for key KPIs which include:
Feature/journey goal completion rates

Journey and channel tNPS

Indirectly and jointly responsible for driving channel adoption and revenue through journey design that increases conversion rates.

Leadership
Lead the Mobile Channels UX design team and ensure functional excellence, collaboration, and alignment across teams

Represents the Design function in stakeholder interactions, removing all possible impediments for

Designers in the team, including handling courageous conversations.

Strengthen all phases of the design process, including research, wireframes, prototypes, usability testing and CRO.

Manage multiple UX projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines.

Being able to identify problems and work towards their prompt resolution across all phases of the design process (research, define, design, and optimise)

Stay up to date and promote new, modern design standards and patterns, champion great UX in the face of technical constraints.

Deliver a constant focus on improvement and enhancements through consistent KPI tracking and focus

Team Management:
Build a strong experience design culture. Own the end-to-end design process of the team to drive high-velocity high-quality product design

Advocate user experience best practices and ensure quality of output from more junior team members

Attract and retain top UX design talent and be actively involved in hiring for roles and scaling team

Serve as a coach and mentor to the UX design team, ensuring quality, team sharing and career development

Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging experimentation, knowledge sharing, and a commitment to continuous learning

Research and UX Design:
Design and conduct product definition and UX requirements workshops

Direct the production of journey maps, personas, scenarios, process flows, information architecture diagrams and other artefacts required to develop and evolve product definition and user experience design

Oversee the delivery of low and/or high-fidelity wireframes and communicate its rationale to internal team and key stakeholders.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Must have technical / professional qualifications:
Matric is essential

5 year Degree/Diploma in one or more of these disciplines : Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Information Systems / Informatics, Human Computer Interaction or other related fields

Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) or similar certification would be desirable, but not required.

Masters in Psychology, Social Sciences advantageous

OR
Matric is essential

6-8 years working experience in one or more of these disciplines: Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Information Systems / Informatics, Human Computer Interaction or other related fields

Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) or similar certification would be desirable, but not required.

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:
Minimum of 6 years industry experience essential in the following:

Track record across a range of UX projects including large scale re-design transformation projects involving all phases of the CX process. (Mobile and Web with a focus on mobile.)

User-centered design, interaction design, information architecture, or similar.

Proficiency in design tools such as, Figma. Nice to have - Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar software.

Strong proficiency in Design Software beneficial (Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch).

Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, collaborate to solve problems, present design and sell solutions, and keep colleagues informed.

Incorporate market analysis, customer feedback, site metrics, and usability findings into designs.

User Research Techniques and disciplines such as usability testing and contextual inquiries.

Wireframes and Prototyping of user interfaces

Knowledge of high-fidelity prototyping. (Including component states, micro-interactions, animation)

Knowledge of technologies such as HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and mobile app operating systems would be advantageous.

Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs.
