Summary
The Voice Engineer is responsible for maintaining the performance and reliability of the Bitco Voice core environment and customer voice solutions. As a mentor to NOC SPEC engineers, the Voice Engineer provides training and knowledge transfer.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Create trunks and accounts for new and existing clients.
- Ensure that voice accounts are linked correctly to clients in the BitCo ERP system.
- Implement contractual call rates.
- Maintain the security of customer SIP trunks.
- Troubleshoot the core BitCo Voice network.
- Escalate and troubleshoot customer PBX issues from the NOC.
- Route ported numbers and ensure porting compliance.
- Monitor Voice Interconnects/POILs and ensure they are in proper working order.
- Log faults with vendors and Interconnect Partners and follow through to resolution.
- Assist with monthly billing and respond to billing inquiries.
- Generate stats and reports for the Board of Directors.
- Maintain and operationally manage any AVM dialers on the BitCo Voice Network.
- Plan and implement improvements to the BitCo Voice Network.
- Perform general maintenance on the BitCo Voice Network.
- Collaborate with various departments and colleagues.
- Complete other reasonable tasks as assigned by superiors.
Qualifications and Experience Hard Skills Required
- 2-5 years of experience with VoIP technology in a telecommunications or ICT company.
- Extensive knowledge of SIP.
- Background in networking technologies such as QinQ and link bonding.
- Proficient in Linux (Debian/Centos) and programming/scripting (Bash, PHP, lua, python).
- Experience with cloud computing (VMware, Proxmox).
- Experience with FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, and Kamailio.
- Expertise in Linux and databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
- Knowledge of networking protocols and tools such as QinQ, link bonding, and tcpdump.
- Proficient in Linux-based operating systems (non-web GUI based).
- At least 2 years of experience in the telecommunications industry with technical tasks.
- Experience programming ADSL and wireless routers, gateways, and analogue converters.
- A strong understanding of network and problem-solving skills is essential for our stable system.
- Ability to automate processes through scripting or vendor tooling.
- Hands-on experience with Asterisk and Kamailio.
- Familiarity with industry standards and terminology such as ISDN, PRI, and VoIP.
