PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE
This position is responsible for the construction supervision of the upgrading of a Water Treatment works project. The position will be based in Warrenton in the Northern Cape.
The Responsibilities
The Resident Engineer (RE) will be responsible for the following elements of the construction works under his/her responsibility:
- Contract Administration acting as Resident Engineer for this project.
- Reviewing the construction drawings and managing the processes of dealing with Contractor queries by liaising with the designers through the required communication lines.
- Inspection of the works and test results for quality control.
- Preparing and updating estimates to completion.
- Maintaining records of site administration and communication in terms SMECs quality management system and Construction Manual.
- Attending and contributing to taking minutes at technical and site meetings.
- Maintaining monthly progress reports.
- Liaison with clients and contractors.
- Managing resources for site supervision.
- Monitoring of quality of works.
- Monitoring of programme and contract budgets.
- Handling claims.
- Preparation of variation orders.
- Closing out projects including compiling completion/closeout reports; and
- Monitoring of Environmental Management Programs.
- Quality and timelines of reporting
- Planning of workload to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of SMECs systems and procedures
- Proficiency in civil design and analysis software packages
- The Employers representative shall hold as a minimum a BSc (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering with at least 15 years experience in Water and/or Wastewater treatment works projects of which at least 10 years have been spent as an Engineer.
- Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist will be advantageous.
- The Employers representative should have extensive experience in the use and interpretation of major conditions of contract and in managing contractual issues. (Experience with GCC2015 Conditions of Contract will be advantageous.)
- Experience of working in Southern Africa is preferred.
- He/she must be fluent in spoken and written English.
