Communications Lead

Strategic Media and External Communications Management
  • Design, implement and manage a proactive external communications and media strategy for Astron Energy.
  • Build and maintain sound and lasting media relations to ensure that the corporate image is protected, maintained and enhanced at all times.
  • When required serve as the primary public affairs contact and spokesperson for Astron Energy in a professional manner congruent with the agreed strategy and Astron Energy behaviors.
  • Manage effectively and proactively all public business announcements, crisis communications and responses to media queries.
  • Act as primary contract owner for the appointed PR agency, ensuring the companys media and reputation strategy is executed as per the agreed scope of work.
  • Oversee the dissemination of the daily media monitoring
  • Develop and produce a suite of relevant communications materials/tools (e.g. brochures, videos) to promote Astron Energys reputation and contribution to the South Africa community.
  • Produce and maintain corporate sections of company website, ensuring that content is fresh, engaging and up to date.
  • Develop and execute the corporate social media strategy, working in close partnership with the digital agency to execute an engaging and relevant content plan that grows our audiences and engagement rates.
Employee Communications and Engagement
  • Design, develop and implement an impactful and disruptive employee communications and engagement strategy that ensures employees are engaged, motivated and focused on delivering on Astron Energys business objectives.
  • Partner with the Refinery Public Affairs Manager to ensure alignment, and sharing of materials and best practices.
  • Provide ongoing support to partner BUs and developing and disseminating internal communications content via the appropriate channels.
  • Implement and measure the success of employee engagement and communications activities in order to continually improve the reach and effectiveness.
Monitoring and Reporting
  • At the direction of the Corporate Affairs Manager monitor, analyze and report relevant data that supports the impact and effectiveness of communication activities functionally and to the business.
Teamwork Expectations
  • Work proactively and collaboratively with members of the Corporate Affairs team
  • Adopt and model Company Values and Behaviors when engaging with internal and external stakeholders
  • Remain abreast of current thinking and new trends in relation to best practice in communications.
Professional Qualification and Certifications: A Bachelors Degree Communication, PR, Social Sciences

Work Experience:

Minimum 5 years experience at a mid to senior level in Corporate or Public Affairs

Knowledge and skills: The role requires excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, an ability to think strategically and see the big picture. The position holder must be adept at translating complex matters into simple, relatable communications that the business can use to easily and clearly articulate its position. The role requires working on multiple projects simultaneously, and to work effectively across a number of areas of public policy development. Therefore, must demonstrate excellent prioritization skills. The position holder needs to be experienced and confident at working with senior executives. Specific skills are: Writing, Executive Communication, Employee Engagement, Stakeholder Management, Media Relations, Supplier Managements, Social media management, Crisis Communications, Event Management, and Corporate Brand Management.
