DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR: TEACHING & LEARNING (REF: R203)

The DVC (Teaching and Learning), reports to the Vice-Chancellor & Principal and is a full member of Senate and many other statutory andmanagement structures. The DVC has the responsibility and accountability for strategic leadership, management and coordination of their respective portfolios of strategies, plans, projects and activities that focus on a broad range of our academic core.

Has a set of functions that includes, but are not limited to, broader academic leadership and management. As such, Executive Deans of DUTs six (6) Faculties report directly to this position. In addition, several directors of associated units that focus academic development and support services, quality assurance and promotion, library and information services report to this position.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A PhD or a doctoral degree with 10-15 years experience of researching and teaching at university level, nationally and/or internationally.
  • At least, 5 years experience at senior/executive and academic leadership/management level, with demonstrable acumen to lead and manage in a volatile, unpredictable, complex and ambiguous environment, more particularly at faculty and/or institutional level. A full Professor is preferable.
EXECUTIVE DEAN: FACULTY OF ARTS AND DESIGN (Ref.: 30000014) AND EXECUTIVE

DEAN: FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT (Ref.:E300)

Executive Deans are senior officers of the University and report to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning). In line with the Universitys vision and overall objectives, Executive Deans are expected to determine, articulate, implement and lead faculty-based strategic initiatives to enhance

the Facultys academic stature, reputation and performance in teaching/learning, research, innovation and engagement. Key traits of Executive Deans include inspirational, innovative and enterprising academic leadership. It is expected that the Executive Deans will strengthen the faculties service ethic to students and its staff and build its engagement with industry, communities and government. As administrators, the Executive Deans are responsible for the academic integrity, administrative management, financial management, human resource and strategic transformational leadership of the Faculty.

The Faculty of Arts and Design consists of the following departments:

Drama and Production Studies * Fashion and Textiles * Fine Art and Jewellery Design * Media, Language and Communication *School of Education * Video Technology * Visual Communication Design. * General Education

The Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment consists of the following departments: Architectural Technology * Chemical Engineering * Civil Engineering and Geomatics * Construction Management and Quantity Surveying * Electrical Power Engineering * Electronic and Computer Engineering * Industrial Engineering * Mechanical Engineering * Town and Regional Planning.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A PhD or a relevant doctoral degree in an appropriate discipline with a strong research profile
  • Proven record of being a respected senior academic
  • At least ten (10) years work experience in the higher education environment of which five (5) years should have been in a senior academic management capacity
  • Sound knowledge of higher education and the higher education system in South Africa
  • Relevant higher education leadership and managerial skills. A full Professor is preferable.
CAMPUS DIRECTOR (Ref:. 30000155)

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (REF:. 30000016)

The Campus Director will actively support the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (People and Operations) in the leadership and management of the multiple campuses of the University. The Campus Director is accountable for the day-to-day management and administration of all the Midlands (PMB)

campuses and must ensure that processes, policies, systems, rules and procedures of the university are consistently applied.

The Campus Director reports to the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (People and Operations) and provides support in the leadership and management of the multiple campuses of the university. This position will be based at the Midlands /Pietermarizburg campus.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A PhD or a doctoral degree with 10 years relevant experience, of which 5 years in senior leadership with a track record of managing a complex operation/reasonable size unit, preferably in the Higher Education environment.
CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER (Ref.:R200)

The Chief Information Officer reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Engagement) and gives support by providing strategic leadership in transforming enterprise by provision of Information Technology strategy and Computer Systems required to support the unique institution goals and objectives.

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is charged with ensuring that the University to utilize digital information and advanced technologies, such as the cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, automation, IoT, mobile and social media, to create value for users so as to realize the objectives of ENVISION2030. The CIO is responsible for the formulation, planning, implementing and managing the Universitys digitization strategies, investments, project portfolios and operations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Masters qualification in Computer Science/Engineering/Information Systems from an accredited institution. A Postgraduate qualification in Management be an added advantage. Well-rounded ICT practical experience with a minimum of 10 years ICT management experience of which 5 years were at a
senior management level. Proven track record in ICT service, support and infrastructure management in a medium to large firm. Proven leadership of successful digital transformation projects. A relevant NQF level 10 qualification will be the preferred qualification.

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (REF:. 30000016)

The Campus Director will actively support the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (People and Operations) in the leadership and management of the multiple campuses of the University. The Campus Director is accountable for the day-to-day management and administration of all the Midlands (PMB)

The Chief Financial Officer reports to the Vice Chancellor/Principal and provides strategic direction and leadership of the financial function of the university by leading, coordinating the design, development and implementation of a comprehensive set of financial policies, plans, procedures and systems.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Chartered Accountant with I 0-15 years experience of working preferable in the Higher Education environment. A further postgraduate
qualification in Administration will serve as an advantage.

CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER (Ref.:R200)

The Chief Information Officer reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Engagement) and gives support by providing strategic leadership in transforming enterprise by provision of Information Technology strategy and Computer Systems required to support the unique institution goals and objectives.
